week three | mingle

No outright changes this week either. Week three rolls around, braced for impact as ever. The estate is still intact, the contestants are still motivated, things are looking good.

Well, aside from the fact you all had a blackout this weekend. That wasn't so good.

Either way, when Monday rolls around, Wei Wuxian seems to be in a cheery mood as he greets everyone Monday morning.

"Everyone, come here, come here. I have an announcement!"

Better go see what that's about, huh?

[. . . grabbing her some paper towels and l*sol, too. is he the only one who didn't use the counter?]

My vote is for Aventurine and Maya.

[ HE KEEPS OFFERING PLATFORMS and different people keep getting on the counter each time. He tried, sorry Edamura. ]

Why do you say that?

[thank you for respecting food preparation surfaces, Nico]

Aventurine's confidence, for one. Not that it's any stronger than your confidence in yourself and Verso, but it sways me.

Plus, I said last week that it'd be a good way to test Wei Wuxian's insight, too. Since Aventurine's confidence comes from the things he has said.

While that is all well and good, we should remember that Wei Wuxian has no more insight than we do. He does not know the pairings, and he also has fairly obvious favorites.

Not that his instincts are not worth considering, of course, but they should not be weighed more heavily than our own.

. . . yeah, that's true, too.

[a pause as he considers this counter argument]

But it still feels pretty right to me!

[personal profile] crimsin 2025-06-19 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that is what matters. I think either way we lean, we have a decent chance. It will just depend on the consensus.

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-06-19 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

I might be pushing for Aventurine and Maya, but I don't think you and Verso are a bad idea, either. I think we get something either way!

[ TEETH GRITTED putting aside his personal grudge against wwx for the moment, being entirely pragmatic: ]

Personally, I'd warn against trusting our dear overseer's insight too much. He was very insistent that he has no answers, and seems to be providing advice mostly in response to our actions -- reactive, rather than providing any new information. Of course, I could be wrong, but it may only be a feedback loop based on Mr. Aventurine's own confidence that's causing him to come across as confident in Mr. Aventurine and Amano-san's pairing.

That's what Nico said, too. . .

[and he has no counter for it, so he just gives a tiny, helpless shrug]

Then in the end, my argument is mostly. . . gut instinct?

[this DEMONSTRABLY HAS NOT HELPED HIM]

... gut instinct.

[ The way he repeats it probably sounds like he's about to shoot it down, but Rom just smiles afterward. ]

Very well. Intuition, too, is a valuable skill. If you've made your mind on that basis, that's valid in its own way.

[ Not their fault Edamura is no fun about this particular issue. ]

I remembering you mention it last time.

[ Test the overseer's intuition. ]

It's not a bad line of logic, and besides that their chances of being a perfect match are a lot higher than most other combinations we could put in there.

[ And he has cleaning products! It's fiiiine.

A small, slightly apologetic smile given that their matching ceremony last week did also have him saying he thought the two of them were a good chance.
]

I mean, I think we're right about this, but be totally honest with me here, Edamura. In situations outside of this one how good are your gut predictions?
ordimame: (19)

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-06-19 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[still!!!]

[also. yeah. Edamura's intuition has been wrong on two proven occasions. and yet, he still abides by it! because it serves him well in non-romance scenarios and is actually pretty accurate!]

[love is his blind spot]

. . . well, most of those situations don't involve pairing people together based on their probability of falling in love. . .

So I'd say my gut has a 99% success rate.

To be fair, I'm not sure the people who did the matching here necessarily did a great job of pairing people together based on that. Though I guess they did have a least one solid success.

[ She taps her finger against her chin considering. ]

Okay, we'll put "Edamura's gut instinct pair" as one of the solid possibilities for this week.

[ But it's mostly because the numbers do check out given how much things have been narrowed down between the two weeks. ]

Right. Numbers aside, intuition's a powerful thing. And Aventurine reminds me a bit of... myself, in a lot of ways. I can see how the producers here would reasonably pair him with Maya because of it.

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-06-19 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)

Verso and Nico. It tells us more about the rest of the pair arrangements, which we essentially know nothing about.
