Serpilia immediately liked Shoko's vibes. Day one a beautiful woman makes her a drink and makes sure to make it on the sweeter side for her because of her taste? Instant winner, and Serpilia was excited to get to know her better.
Early on Shoko struck her as a little bit of a tease herself, doing things like acting like she was going to kiss Serpilia on the forehead before switching it up and pressing one on her lips, and being comfortable being touchy with Serpilia the same way Serpilia was happy to be touchy with her. Shoko was extremely easy and very fun to flirt with, and Serpilia found herself having a really good time with Shoko.
But it just took one little ghostly reveal to find out that she'd really been through some things. It didn't take a genius to figure out the whole point of the apparitions was to make people talk about themselves and their past, or even possibly their present. For the most part, Serpilia really didn't want to pry when she stumbled across people looking at their ghosts. Given her own came with absolutely no baggage involved on her end, it felt extra crappy to get a peek into someone else's trauma without her own really being offered up.
Shoko, however, volunteered information about what Serpilia was seeing with those roughhousing boys, and so Serpilia listened. Without having to pry, she learned that Shoko had lost a lot, and while she may not have understood much about the world that Shoko came from, it sounded like people like her tended to lose a lot at a pretty young age. Her own world is pretty rough on a lot of people, and between a massive widespread disease and massive and frequent natural disasters, people outside of select cities tend to struggle pretty heavily too, so Serpilia understands coming from a rough world.
In fact, during one of her chats with WWX he specifically mentioned reading Serpilia's file, and telling her that what he thought she needed was someone who could support her as her situation started to get tougher. While it has been well established THE MAN KNEW NOTHING, he did have access to that file, and that also meant so did the producers that put together the matches. This is what really started Serpilia down the train of thinking she and Shoko were probably a match, paired with the fact that they knew the gender breakdown, and they figured out pretty quickly that Poppy and Shoko weren't perfect matches.
Sidebar: Shoko and Poppy were Serpilia's personal OTP of the show, and them not being a perfect match broke her heart initially. She wanted it so badly for Poppy, who was so cute in general and very excited about Shoko, and she thought that their demeanors really complimented each other in how different they were.
Related to that sidebar, Serpilia also thought that if she matched with Shoko, it might be a good thing for her Soppy ship, because she had at that point realized she had a crush on both Furina and Ringo, and she wasn't sure how well she was going to shift gears to the person she was meant to match with. She also thought that if it was her, considering she had never been looking for love in the first place, she wouldn't stand in the way of Shoko and Poppy at the end. It seemed like a win/win situation to her even before she realized that the couple she liked were open to letting her in as a third.
Beyond that, she just really liked Shoko as a person. To be matched with her would be genuinely flattering, but even if she wasn't paired with her she liked spending time with her. She really was incredibly easy to talk to in a way that made Serpilia relax and enjoy herself, and she considered Shoko to be a good friend throughout the course of the show.
So being right about the match felt pretty good. Who doesn't want to be matched with the incredibly cool hottie? Even if the two of them had feelings for other people, that just seems like a win in Serpilia's book. It really did feel like everything came together so perfectly in the end in a way she had wanted it to though, and she's happy for herself, and for Shoko, and for Poppy who definitely wins by bagging Shoko like she did. A happy ending beyond Serpilia's wildest expectations.
Now Shoko just needs for all of her friends to stop dying on her...
