Oh... well, I hope this food is fast in preparation, but higher in quality!
[Because what's fast food, too, help.]
That said, I think production is having a laugh at some of our expenses. Just glad to know they didn't play with ours. I've been curious to get to know you better.
[Yes, he’s turned up the charm for the sake of the game, but he also feels bad about that. Like he’s selling a part of himself that doesn’t really represent who he is.
He pushes those feelings away, though. Verso does want to get to know her better, and that’s no lie.]
But this evening belongs just to the two of us, don’t worry. You have my undivided attention.
[ She smiles at that response and raises both brows at him. She's friendly too, but seems that charm of his has a particular attractive natural quality that draws others in, whether he's playing it up right now or not. She won't belabor the point though. ]
Alright, Mr. Friendly. If that's the case, why don't you tell me a little more about yourself. I don't think we've really had much of a chance for that yet.
[They can look over their menus while he begins, which... surprisingly does not go over Verso's head. He takes it all in with some familiarity, so it seems that at some point in his life, he was at ease with fine dining like this.]
Well, as my profile states, I was an Expeditioner before arriving here. Someone who traveled a dangerous land full of monsters in order to reach a place called the Monolith. This was far, far easier said than done, however. I thought that this place would be a nice relaxing four weeks to break things up.
[ That makes one of them at least. Serpilia doesn't spend a lot of time at fancy joints, so there's something almost intimidating about a menu like this. ]
Yikes... and I thought my break from overworking was a good enough reason to want one. Then again, I guess I do have to do some occasional combat for mine. Sounds like yours is a lot more non-stop though.
[...Ah. Not that he expected the subject of conflict to be a happy one, but there are less weighty answers than that. Monsters, for example, which is the answer he'd give if asked.
A bit more somberly, as he's noticed how the menu is suddenly of more interest to her.]
Oh, are you in the middle of a war? Sorry. We can talk about something else.
Not exactly, no. Not in any real active way anyways.
[ There are always skirmishes though, but that's a different matter. ]
It's not like it's something I can't talk about or anything, but probably kind of a downer dinner conversation though? Then again, I guess fighting monsters isn't all that uplifting either.
[He offers her an apologetic look. She's right, of course, and even though he's curious, maybe they shouldn't start off with something as heavy as that.]
Right, then, so what about happy topics! [He sets his menu down, apparently having decided, and laces his fingers together, leaning in.]
Let's talk about something we enjoy about what we do! You go first.
[ Kind of surprising he doesn't know what that is, but then again Sankta don't exist in other worlds, so it makes sense drones wouldn't exist in most of them either?
... This logic does not line up, and is not true in most cases, but she's sticking with it for now. ]
I can show you sometime later if you want. I brought a few with me. They're handy if I want a proxy to attend a meeting for me, instead of having to sit through it myself.
Sooort of. In the sense that they have microphones and cameras on them. I'm pretty sure someone would figure it out pretty fast if I tried to put a dress on one of my drones and sent it in.
[ Though the idea is kind of appealing in order to get out of having to do it herself...
But man... how to explain a drone to someone who has never seen one? ]
It'll make a lot more sense once I show you later.

She trails off with a sigh, before sitting upright in her chair and offering him a genuine smile at that. ]
You too. You're a pretty hot commodity in the manor, so I've gotta taken my chances to have you to myself while I can.

It depends. Some days are quiet, others are worse.
[But he shrugs, like it's not a big deal.]
What about you? What are you fighting back home?
no subject
Mostly other people.
[ Not uncommon. Probably the most common thing for people to have to fight, but... ]

I managed to nab myself a job working on building things like drones and other gadgets, so I kind of lucked out in that regard.
no subject
[Memory flickers. An engineer like Gustave?]
Though I'm not sure I know what a drone is.

Maybe you can have one attend the match ceremony, and none will be the wiser.
[that's not how it works]

[Hm. His turn?]
And I can tell you about Esquie in turn. He was a friend of mine. I think you'd like him, he was also so positive about everything around him.
no subject
[ And Serpilia likes Maya from what she's seen, so she thinks Verso might be right. ]
People like that are pretty important, huh?
