OKAY................. their first thread really was just them playing flirting chicken bc neither of them are the type AT ALL to back down, i think it was just a situation where neither were willing to call it off or, for lack of a better term, submit to the other. they both have pretty domineering personalities

but it was at the end of that interaction that she Actually had interest in him, when he had asked her to stay with him... prior to that, i dont think she really would've given him a second glance? not that she would've disliked him, but like i wrote in my love survey, yy is not interested in people who pursue her or are super charming/flashy, it's too similar to the people who would pursue her at the pavilion... but getting to see that little piece of him behind the curtain made her want to see more of what was lurking behind there

they're both immune to the others' charms which in a funny way allowed them to get friendly/close early on... this is why she picked him out for the truth booth as an option! tbh i think after yy became one of the people getting suggested for the truth booth, she was genuinely concerned about getting voted off the island, since the whole reason she came to the competition was to interact with other people after having been isolated for so long... she picked luka because she thought of him well and genuinely did want to get to know him more, but also thought there likely wasn't a chance they were matched based on the aforementioned her not being in to flashy/charming types

wrt the truth booth and their conversation after it... i think that even though he never told her explicitly his situation, she put the pieces together pretty easily. her world is post-apocalyptic too, it's not too far of a leap for her to have imagined another force having taken over (instead of a nebulous energy like mania infecting). the way luka talks about the segyein, his fans, and other humans gave her the impression that humans are owned in some sense by segyein, so while she never quite heard about the 'pet' side of it, it was obvious from his actions that he had to act a certain way in public/where he could be seen so as to not displease the people holding his proverbial leash

given that understanding, it made her way more empathetic and patient with his personality than others might've been, tbh... yy knows she grew up extremely fortunate and loved, and everything about Luka's... well Everything made her think that he didn't grow up with any of that. he feels very boyish to yy, not having a great understanding of the wider world or people's feelings... which instead of faulting him for, she feels sympathetic for him, and wants to give him the care and patience he hasn't really received. i think it'd be hard for her to get genuinely frustrated with him because she knows where it all comes from — a lack of proper love and socialization — and like.... playful and teasing as she can be, yy is also really emotionally intelligent and wise, we never see her lash out or lose her temper, and she treats everyone with a really caring attitude... i think their cr is very much her wanting to see luka blossom into a new version of himself that's not so controlled by outside forces/maintaining an image... because she really finds his real personality cute

ESPECIALLY LIKE... WHEN HIS FEELINGS GOT HURT WRT YI SANG... she could understand him not being able to articulate it but still feeling hurt. i think the vibe he tends to give off is that he is abrasive/difficult, but in yy's eyes he's actually quite like yi sang where he doesn't really know how to communicate well... and just like with him, she has a lot of patience and genuine want to see him grow from this...

in return i think luka's simple view of everything is quite comforting to yingying; behind the poems and legends and nonstop teasing, she's pretty much a realist and very self aware... she appreciates a blunt, refreshing take on things. and also, i think in her life prior to the star falling, outside of the people she was close to, i think she's more used to people clamming up around her, trying to win her favor, or things like that... so luka just treating her really simply and bluntly makes for a friendship she can trust in more easily, if that makes sense

in sum... that's just her little guy.... she has a lot of understanding for him and gives him a lot of grace because she wants him to experience what she had all her life: stable, positive relationships. though the greater stuff about aliens destroying earth and keeping humans as pets is beyond her, the important thing is she recognizes he's faced a lot of neglect and wants to fill in those gaps
