week two | match ceremony

Tonight, we're back in the courtyard. It looks similar to last week with the slight exception, there is now a plush couch near the stage, and a single lantern already lit above the stage. There's still food, drinks, all sorts of things available for the contestants to snack on and enjoy.

On the stage is Wei Wuxian, looking presentable in his hanfu for today. He's busy twirling his flute in hand as he waits for the contestants to show up and find their places, and when they do he'll extend both arms out, welcoming the cast.

"Second match ceremony! You're exempt from a black out tonight because you've already found one of the matches."

He'll gesture to that couch from earlier, which seems to be The Special Seat for Ringo and Furina to sit at if they'd like.

"Now, we know how this goes so let's not delay anymore! Team Wangji, it's your turn to announce your matches!"

I won't discount them as a possibility, but I think I'd rather hear what they have to say about it first.

Neither of them are outright denying it, sooo...

Well. . . we could always try them in the truth booth next week, if we want to be sure.

Though I'd probably want to test Verso and Nico first.

[ Another beat. ]

It just feels safer.

. . . I'd like to test Maya and Aventurine.

[fireball]

[ that icon though.....

another pause. especially if his hair is like that here. ]

[IT'S NOT, IT'S HIS NORMAL FLUFFY SHAGGY STYLE]

Aventurine is very confident that she is his match, based on his conversation with Wei Wuxian. I think it's a great way not only to test one of the pairs from last week, but also our host's insight.

[he believes that WWX does not know the official pairings, but he's a smart guy! he could give them a lot to think about!]

If they're up for it.

[ No sending up someone who doesn't want to do it, but with Maya and Aventurine... they'll probably be fine, right? ]

Well, if Aventurine is good at this sort of thing... [ and there's no reason to think he's not... ] it might be worth considering for that alone. Especially since Maya seems a little less certain about the whole thing.

[ No offence girl. She's so sweet but. ]

I don't know if our host has any insight though.

[ Just saying Messmer is his favourite... okay. ]

[ ... thinking back on her conversation with him this past week. ]

[ Flatly: ] He was encouraging Shoko and I to get together. Said he didn't know the matches, but that we could totally be one.

[ Which didn't make him that different from virtually everyone else, which definitely did not contribute to any way she might be feeling, ]

Because we aren't each other's match, so either he knows nothing, or he's a devious little snake.

[ ... ]

It's probably the former.

Oh, it's definitely the former. Can't you tell? He's a total romantic.

So he was just encouraging you because he thinks you guys are good together!

Well, sure, but that means he also thought we were each other's match.

[ A beat. ]

Which we're not.

[ A beat. ]

So he knows nothing.

[WELL. . .]

. . . I guess I see what you mean.

But I still think he has some pretty sharp insight on who we are as people. Maybe even the things that we need.

... Really?

[ A thing she had not considered before. ]

So he's like a useful idiot? We can try to mine him for information he doesn't even know might be relevant?

[ just chucking that out there. ]
